Communicating
The mission of the lay communication section is to engage the broader public by fostering dialogue, informing policymakers, and channeling national initiatives in science communication in microbiology.
We live in a microbe‑dominated world. The passion of microbiologists for their field is a powerful driver in bringing microbiology closer to a wider audience. Now more than ever, microbiology-related topics are discussed and debated across society. Some of these issues involve policy and have a direct impact on everyday life, for example in areas such as antimicrobial resistance and vaccination.
Our main objectives are:
(i) to increase public awareness of microbes and microbiology
(ii) to disseminate research carried out by Swiss laboratories in microbiology to a broader audience
(iii) to encourage greater engagement of microbiologists in Switzerland in science communication with the public
(iv) to strengthen connections between Swiss microbiologists and other organisations involved in science communication
