The Swiss
Society for Microbiology (SSM) is a professional association with more
than 700 members working in the field of human and veterinary medical
microbiology, fundamental and general
microbiology, (food production and safety, environment), biotechnology, virology and mycology.
The SSM is dedicated to the advancement of microbiology both as a medical
and scientific discipline. These aims are achieved by organizing an annual
meeting, workshops, conferences, courses in continuous education,
and by taking part in current microbiology debates.
Special attention is given to promoting young scientists by supporting them with travel grants. The Society has also established the SSM encouragement award to promising microbiologists for achievements that are outstanding in terms of their originality and particular scientific value.
Are you working in the field of microbiology in a diagnostic lab, a research lab, a hospital, in industry or in an administration? If your work has something to do with microorganisms, or viruses, then the Swiss Society for Microbiology (SSM-SGM) is the professional organisation to join.
The SSM
is a privileged partner of the Swiss Federal Office for Public Health
with respect to medical microbiology issues. Furthermore, the SSM actively
contributes to the program of postgraduate training for FAMH specialists
in medical laboratory diagnostics as it is responsible for the training
in microbiology.
The Society's news are published on this web site as well as by electronic newsletters to SSM-members. For statutary reasons a printed "info" will be published and mailed to the members approx. five weeks before the annual meeting.
